Our team loves providing general dental treatment because it is so important to our patients’ oral health. It is especially rewarding to help young patients get started with good dental care early on, so they can enjoy happy, healthy smiles for life.
The main types of general dentistry we offer include:
Dental Cleanings and Exams – If you’re a new patient, you can expect your first appointment to last about two hours. It will include a set of digital X-rays, a complete dental exam (including an oral cancer screening), a wellness scan with our iTero scanner, and usually a teeth cleaning. You will also spend at least 30 minutes with your dentist to discuss any concerns you have or smile goals you want to achieve.
Nonsurgical Gum Disease Treatment – If we see signs of gum disease, we have several treatment options. They include traditional as well as laser deep cleaning, topical antibiotics, and antibacterial rinses.
Custom Mouthguards – We want to help you keep your smile whole, so we can make you custom mouthguards. An athletic mouthguard will protect your pearly whites while playing sports, while a bruxism (teeth grinding) mouthguard will prevent grinding-related damage to your tooth enamel.

Wonderful energy. The person I spoke to on the phone was kind, patient, and answered all my questions about the process. All staff members, the front desk, dental assistants and Dr. Montoya made sure I felt seen and heard and gave me their full time and attention throughout the whole appointment. This made my experience less stressful as I have dental anxiety. I’m very happy with his recommendations and treatment options.
I can’t say enough good things about Boulder Dental Designs, but seriously.
Every single person you interact with here are quality people that care about you having a great outcome. From the front desk, to hygienists to Invisalign techs to Dr Montoya, they are all truly a pleasure to be around and trust them with your care.
This is coming from an incredibly high anxiety patient, after two jaw surgeries in the past and a high aversion to any dentist procedures. Dr Montoya’s team has been incredibly kind, patient and accommodating with me to where for the first time in almost a decade I don’t dread going to the dentist. I now love visiting them!
I also didn’t feel like it was an uphill battle to advocate for myself or what I needed to feel comfortable as I’ve felt I’ve had to do everywhere else. I just had to explain my circumstances once, and they did everything to make me comfortable and take any treatment slowly.
I really, really appreciate this team and the family Dr Montoya has built over the years. I can tell his team cares about the details, the quality of the work and each patient.
Dr. Montoya is an excellent dentist with exceptional attention to detail. His design skills are outstanding and he uses all of the latest technology to do high quality restorative work. He is a kind person with an ability to explain things in a clear, concise way. His office staff, hygienists and assistants are all friendly and talented. Overall an incredible dental practice.
I’ve been a patient for a year and half now and every visit is a pleasant one. The staff is very welcoming and professional. My cleanings, exams, and procedures are thorough and comfortable. I feel well taken care of when I’m there, and never pressured into anything that is not necessary (unlike other practices I’ve been to in the past). Very glad I found this practice and would recommend it others in a heart beat.
I was eating a granola bar and a crown came off of one of my back molars. Thank God I was only about 10 minutes away from their office.
I arrived at the office at about 12:55 and they were just getting ready to go to lunch. Since I wasn’t in any pain, they told me to come back at 2pm. So I came back at 2 and they took care of me right away!!! Everyone in the office was very friendly, courteous and professional. And Doctor Montoya did an awesome job!!! He’s the first dentist I’ve ever had who put my crown back in perfectly the first time!!!
I’ve had other dentists but crowns back in. However they always took one or something even 2 times to get it adjusted perfectly. So in conclusion Thank you Doctor Montoya along with your team, for making me feel like family the moment I entered your office!
Had a wonderful exam and 5 star treatment from Kayla, the hygienist. Crystal and Megan, at the front desk were pleasant and welcoming. Dr. Montoya and his staff are always dependable and consistent in their skill and professionalism.
I was very pleased with my experience at Boulder Dental Designs. My appointment was right on time, I received a thorough exam and analysis of the current state of my teeth, my teeth cleaning was performed by a confident and competent hygienist, and I finished with a summary oral exam and discussion with the dentist. A great experience all around.
Common Questions About General Dentistry
What is general dentistry? +–
Maintaining a beautiful smile and optimal oral health is the primary goal of general dentistry. We offer several services to achieve this, including dental cleanings and exams, gum disease treatment, preventive treatments like fluoride application and dental sealants, and custom-made mouthguards for athletes or teeth grinders. Regular dental care is crucial in preserving the health and beauty of your smile.
What foods are healthy for my teeth? +–
Nutritious foods that benefit your overall health also help you maintain healthy teeth. Adding fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and calcium-rich foods like cheese into your diet is a good start. Certain fruits and vegetables, with their high water and fiber content, function as a natural toothbrush and remove plaque from your teeth. Nuts make an excellent snack option as they contain minerals that strengthen tooth enamel, making it less vulnerable to cavities.
Can I prevent cavities? +–
Brushing with a toothpaste that contains fluoride at least two times a day is essential in preventing cavities, as is daily flossing. Limiting the amount of sugary or highly acidic foods in your diet is also helpful. If you’re unable to brush after meals, rinsing out your mouth with water is a good way to help wash away the food debris and bacteria that cause cavities. Ask your dental team about fluoride and sealants, two treatments that can make your teeth less cavity-prone.
