Your dentures are an investment and require care and attention to maintain their optimum performance. The fit of your dentures will have a profound effect on your oral tissues and health. An annual examination by Dr. Montoya will help ensure your denture is functioning properly.
MEDICAL AND DENTAL HISTORY UPDATE
After you have received a set of complete or partial dentures from Boulder Dental Designs, we recommend that you update your medical and dental history at least once a year. Updating your medical and dental account with any significant changes is critical to maintaining your oral health and well-being. A variety of medical and dental conditions can alter a denture fit.
ANNUAL ORAL EXAM
At Boulder Dental Designs, we recommend that our patients undergo an annual oral exam. Annual examinations can assist in detecting oral abnormalities, including cancerous and precancerous lesions. Early detection of these conditions is generally beneficial for treatment. Additionally, during these assessments, our dentists examine the health of our gums and teeth. If the dentures are causing damage to your gums, our dentist may recommend a treatment plan. This is also a great time to ask denture or oral health-related questions. If you have oral health concerns, please bring them up so our dentists can help you right away.
TISSUE AND BONE ASSESSMENT
Ill-fitting dentures may cause bone and tissue changes and need to be corrected for your oral health. Our practice can assess and recommend solutions to suit your personal needs. Our dentist will examine your bones and tissues during your yearly oral health exam to ensure your dentures are fitting correctly.
COMFORT, FIT, AND INTEGRITY OF DENTURES
Bite problems, speech impediments, and tissue irritations can be caused by an ill-fitting denture and should be remedied. Leaving this condition unchecked can lead to complicated situations in the future. Dr. Montoya can assess your dentures for cracks, chips, and broken or loose teeth and suggest solutions.
DENTURE EXAM OVERVIEW
At Boulder Dental Designs, we recommend that you visit our dental office twice a year for a dental cleaning and at least once a year for a dental exam. We will collect essential information during your dental exam to help us serve you better. We will ask you if there have been any updates to your medical or dental history. This includes starting a new medication or being diagnosed with dental decay or other dental concerns.
Next, your dentist, Dr. Montoya or Dr. Lai, will examine your oral cavity. This examination is of your teeth, gums, the soft tissue of your mouth, and the structures of your neck. As mentioned above, our dentists are trained to spot several different abnormalities, including oral cancer. During this assessment, your dentist will also assess the tissue and bone. They will ensure that the dentures have not caused undue damage to the gums or bone below. Your dentist will also examine your smile with your dentures in place. He will ensure the dentures are stable and fit correctly during this exam.
Lastly, your dentist will polish your dentures and review your oral hygiene routine with you. Like natural teeth, dentures should be polished at least once a year to keep them healthy and fresh-looking. Your dentist will also go over your oral health routine. He will ensure that you properly care for the dentures and use the right tools.
